tape scrap paper down to work surface, then lay down book page and tack it to scrap paper. lay stencil over page and tack it down as well. this holds everything steady for the next steps...

start at top of stencil with bubble gum gelato and lightly color inside the stencil - don't worry about completely filling in designs. then use guava, then lavender, overlapping the colors slightly...

dip paintbrush in water and blot on paper towel. begin blending the gelato colors within the stenciled design. don't worry about being perfect, it's ok if some of the color bleeds under the edges...

blended colors. do not remove stencil and set aside to dry...

use black pen to roughly outline design. for a more "random" look, lightly outline some areas and more heavily outline others...

remove stencil to reveal background paper...

find a partially blank page and tape it down to scrap paper. then tape heart stencil down to page...

fill in areas of stencil using red cherry gelato...

use a paintbrush and water to blend color as before. work with an almost dry brush around words, holding stencil in place as you go. set aside to dry leaving stencil in place...

use black pen to outline stencil design as before...

remove stencil to reveal heart embellishment...

cut out heart, leaving about an 1/8" border around it. use black pen to color in border...

cut shopping bag down and fold in half to form card base...

tack bag card base down to scrap paper, then tack herringbone stencil down to bag. make sure you have a complete row of chevrons at the right side...

outline row of chevrons at right side of card...

add a random zig zag pattern to fill in designs...

finished border design...

tear edges of background paper to fit on card front. leave about a 1/2" border around top, bottom and left side. the border at the right should be mostly revealed...

adhere background paper to card front...

adhere heart on a slant near bottom right of card front...
